In this video Sir Ken Robinson raised some interesting ideas about creativity in schools. We tried to included some of his suggestions in our classroom design, allowing a lot more space for students to move around and be social.
This video is also by Ken Robinson and gave us a good history of the reasons our education system is designed the way it is. No reason why it has to stay the same though!
This video really got us talking. We didn't agree with every aspect of it but it got us debating about how the connection between what we learn in school and what we do in the rest of our life is not as obvious as some people make out.
One of the videos we bonded over. We all found these over-priced wheely chairs ridiculous and the opposite of what we wanted to aim for. We know them now as "Satan's little chariots of failed potential".
Our Classroom ended up being bright and airy like the ones suggested in this video.
We thought that this video was very interesting in how it had lots of facts and figures about Irish education without really giving a sense of what being a student in Ireland is like,
This guy seems as frustrated with the US system as we are sometimes with ours. We particularly liked what he had to say about student choice and being able to discover and follow your passion at school.
We agree that we should learn more practical subjects instead of being made learn things in detail that won't need unless we have a job associated with that subject. We think unnessecary subjects should be a choice rather than mandatory. However we don't agree that people should leave school.
We think this kind of technology would help school but it wouldn't completely fix the education system by itself. People seem to have and image of future education all being technology based but we don't think technology can fix everything.
